FUEL ASSISTANCE

Tuesday, Apr 14, 2020

Families can apply for fuel assistance through April 30, an opportunity for those who have lost income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The increase in unemployment and loss of income may mean more families are eligible for fuel assistance.

Funding is available to help pay a portion of heating bills for income-eligible households in Lawrence, Methuen, Andover, North Andover, Reading and North Reading. Eligibility is based on household size and the gross annual income of every household member, 18 years of age or older.

Residents are encouraged to apply even if they work, live in subsidized housing, or if utilities are covered through rent.   In 2018, 8,963 households received fuel assistance through GLCAC to defray home heating costs, a 10 percent increase over the previous year.

To apply for fuel assistance, call GLCAC at 978-681-4950 or email Gerald Walsh at gcwalsh@glcac.org or Ada Figueroa at afigueroa@glcac.org. GLCAC staff is currently not meeting with clients, but can be contacted by phone and email.  Paperwork can be mailed or dropped off in a drop box at 305 Essex Street, Lawrence, MA 01840.
